1/21: Blue skies but arctic cold.
TV10 Crested Butte and Gunnison Valley Daily Weather Update- For 1/21: Overnight lows dropped under the clear skies to some of the lowest of the season but we were spared the worst of it. Look for an arctic but blue bird start with a slow rebound in temperatures with winds too calm to clear the cold allowing for another day of highs in the single digits. The sun will be deceptive but respect the frostbite potential and have plenty of layers.
Temperatures: Lows stayed a little warmer than predicted at -28 for Gunni but still hit -31 for CB. Highs will hold right round 5. Lows tonight will gain a few degrees but stay in the negative 20s.
Outlook: A weak system diving in from the north will drop down the other side of the divide with snow showers for the area but more significantly wind. Gusts will reach the 20s which will help mix the cold pools clear of the lowest valleys resetting us back to cold but more palatable seasonal norms. A fresh trough from the northwest will drop to our west with a slow pivot in from the southwest as snow moves in for the weekend. This is not a huge system but is the best dynamics we’ve seen in a while.
