3/5: A trough moving in.
TV10 Crested Butte and Gunnison Valley Daily Weather Update- For 3/5: We are seeing some high clouds moving out in front of this approaching trough that will offer a mostly sunny mix early but increasing cover into the afternoon. Snow will start as showers this evening and continue overnight with gusting winds blowing in colder air and better moisture with 1-3” possible for CB by the morning.
Temperatures: Lows dropped to 15 for CB and 19 for Gunni. Highs will climb to 52 for Gunni and 47 for CB before we cool tonight. Lows tonight will look similar but with clouds and snow showers.
Outlook: We have seen this trough let the colder air catch up and are looking at better timing for that combination but with less favorable overall dynamics. We will snow from Friday morning through Saturday with the initial wind direction from the southwest pivoting as the base passes over our area through Friday to the northwest. Models have the trough stalling and this could produce heavy bands of snow combining with the colder air. That could favor Irwin with an upside surprise but CB remains in the 4-6” category with less for Gunni.
