1/20: A big temperature swing.
TV10 Crested Butte and Gunnison Valley Daily Weather Update- For 1/20: Clear skies and super dry air combined to allow for radiational cooling overnight producing a super cold low. Skies will remain clear and sunny but plan for a cold start with a big temperature swing into the afternoon and have layers.
Temperatures: Lows dropped to -9 for CB and -2 for Gunni. Highs will climb back to 40 for Gunni and 36 for CB. Lows tonight will look the same.
Outlook: We are traversing this gap of high pressure in the west with the pattern starting its slow pivot around to the west. Clear skies remain the trend with dry air allowing for cold lows that in a normal snow year would produce strong valley inversions but with limited cover will just mean big swings. We start to see increasing clouds Wednesday afternoon continuing through Thursday with snow starting early Friday. We are seeing the chance at a southern wave phasing with a colder northern system upping the dynamic ante through Saturday but timing will be everything so stay tuned.
