This weekend at Alpine Meadows, 30 of the Tahoe’s best skiers and snowboarders gathered for the 5th Annual Trains competition presented by the High Fives Foundation. The contest had five categories, each of which’s prize money would be donated to the charity of the winning athlete’s choice. The benefitting charities were The Shane McConkey Foundation, Ski Duck, the Reeve Irvine Research Center, and High Fives.
For those who don’t know, the High Fives Foundation is a Truckee based organization dedicated to raising money and awareness for athletes who suffer life altering injuries in winter action sports. Roy Tuscany, who started the organization after suffering a devastating spinal cord injury in 2006, states, “Within the past year we have not only grown at a rate that exceeded all expectations, but have also successfully raised funds, secured alternative treatments and aided in the recovery of over fifteen athletes.”
