Our friend and CB native Pip Hunt is joining a set of women (including her mother Martha) on a sailing trip out of Islafjordur, Iceland, for unique trip to study climate change and ski first descents in both Iceland and Greenland.  The team embarks March 26th, and will travel until April 19th.  This is their press release and campaign movie.

A team of five women will set sail from Islafjordour, Iceland on March 26th bound for the southwest coast of Greenland in pursuit of skiing first descents and collecting local data about the changing climate.  Shifting Ice + Changing Tides consists of team members Meghan Kelly, Nat Segal, McKenna Peterson, Pip Hunt and Martha Hunt. They have teamed up with the Climate Reality Project’s I AM PRO SNOW campaign to bring a compelling story back from one of the global epicenters of climate change. The trip will be documented by professional photographer Andy Bardon.

“We want to show people this remote part of the world from multiple perspectives – that of skiers, sailors, scientists, and environmentalists of both younger and older generations,” Meghan Kelly.

In addition to sailing and skiing, the team will be collecting data to inform both marine conservation and climate change studies through Adventurers and Scientists for Conservation.

“We knew that we’d be accessing remote areas and we are excited to be able to collect this data for scientists. It allows our expedition to physically give back,” Pip Hunt.

Shifting Ice + Changing Tides was a recipient of the 2013 Polartec Challenge Award. They will be running a crowdfunding campaign on IndieGoGo from February 10 – March 7, 2014.
