Skiing the backcountry is a passion for  lots of us. It is extremely important for those who do venture into the backcountry to know what they are doing. But, unfortunately even the most experienced of us fall victim to avalanches.  The I.A.N. Fund is an organization that helps families of avalanche victims. On Thursday night at the Center for the Arts in Crested Butte, there will be a showing of Teton Gravity Research’s film Higher. All the proceeds will go directly to the I.A.N. Fund, so please show your support. Here is a copy of the press release:

“The I.A.N. Fund and Teton Gravity Research (TGR) have teamed up to bring Jeremy Jones’ film Higher to the Crested Butte Center for the Arts. The event will take place Thursday March 12, 2015 and tickets are $15. Your ticket will include entry into a raffle as well as food prior to the show. Additional raffle tickets will be available for $5 at the event.

The night will also include a screening of TGR’s award winning Almost Ablaze.

100% of the profits from this event will directly benefit the I.A.N. Fund.

The International Avalanche Nest-egg or I.A.N. Fund was established shortly after the death of Ian Lamphere in the Sheep Creek avalanche on April 20th, 2013. Ian left behind a 9 month old daughter, Madelyn. The mission of the non-profit is to support the children and families of avalanche victims with immediate and long term financial needs. The IAN fund is the only organization of its kind and strives not only to provide financial support but also to create a community of emotional support surrounding the tragedy of avalanche fatalities.

Higher is the third installment in the TGR Further, Deeper, Higher Trilogy. Higher traces Jones’ snowboarding journey from hiking Cape Cod’s Jailhouse Hill as a child to accumulating several generations’ worth of wisdom and expertise about thriving and surviving in the winter wilderness. Jones leaves tracks on signature lines in the close-to-home playgrounds he’s made his own around Jackson Hole. He also makes history with far-flung first descents in the Eastern Alaska Range and the Himalayas of Nepal, where the stakes are as high as the peaks themselves.

Higher is in the midst of a worldwide film tour with over 200 stops. The film is an official selection of the 62nd San Sebastian Film Festival and is currently a Finalist for Best Film at the 2014 Banff International Mountain Film Festival.

TGR’s Almost Ablaze was Awarded “Film of the Year” at the 2014 International Freeski Film Festival and is touted as“a global odyssey combining state-of-the-art cinematography and the most progressive riding on The Planet.
