From sunrise to way past sundown, Crested Butte is going to be rowdy this Saturday. Teenage shredders will kick the party off with the finals of the IFSA Junior Nationals on Crested Butte’s famed North Face. Look for Matt Evans and the rest of the Mountain Sports Team to come out firing against the best in the country, on Hawks Nest Friday and then Staircase for Saturday’s final. If you like good big mountain skiing, come check these juniors out. Graduates of the junior freeskiing competitions are quickly impacting the world of freeskiing. We just watched eighteen year old Ian Borgeson absolutely dominate the FWT Qualifier at Taos.
At the conclusion of the Junior Nationals, head to the base area for Crested Butte Mountain Resort’s FESTEVOL, featuring The Wailers and Twiddle, with special guest John Popper. Tickets are available at the Adventure Center for $25.
From there, head to downtown Crested Butte for Big Air on Elk (if you’re drinking take the bus!!!) The skiing and riding get started at 5:00 pm, with finals beginning at 9:00. If you can’t make the event, go to twoplank.com or freeskier.com to view a live-stream on the internet. After Big Air, it shouldn’t be hard to find a good time. The Lobar and Colorado FreeSkier are hosting an after-party featuring local djs. It’s a good time to be in the Butte.
