A dual premiere of “Further” and “Dream Factory” was put on at the Taylor Auditorium on the Western campus to benefit the WSCU Freeride Team, the CB Avalanche Center, and the SoCO 14er Expedition.  If you still haven’t seen Jeremy Jones’ “Further”, you need to make that a top priority.  “Dream Factory” is definitely a rad film, but “Further” pushes human exploration to new heights. You can read our reviews of “Further” and “Dream Factory” from our trip to the Meeting 8 in Aspen.

Jordan Schwartz, of the WSCU Freeride Team and whom we interviewed about his SoCO 14er Expedition, put on the event with serious help from sponsors: Cold Smoke Splitboards, Crested Butte Mountain Resort, San Juan Snowcats, GlideOn Wax, the Crested Butte Avalanche Center, the Powerstop, Gecko Skins, Voile, Venture Snowboards, and Teton Gravity Research.  The West Elk Project even tossed a few hats in to the massive raffle.  First of all, somebody won $125 in a 50/50 raffle benefiting the ski team, then a literal mountain of shwag was given away in the raffle, including a pair of Klint Skis, day passes to CBMR, unguided day passes to Silverton, and seats on San Juan Snowcats.

At the end of it all, $747 was raised for the Western Freeride Team, part of the WSCU Mountain Sports; $570 was raised for the CB Avalanche Center; and $565 was raised for Jordan Schwartz’s SoCO 14er Expedition.  Overall, that’s just under $1900, a number that blows me away considering it was just a Wednesday night in Gunnison in November.  This is a great example of how the community can support our sports here!   A special thanks goes out to everyone behind the scenes who made it happen: Jordan Schwartz, Francesca Pavillard-Cain and the rest of the Freeride Team, CB Avalanche Center, the Powerstop (they hosted the afterparty), Cold Smoke Splitboards, and TGR.

Special thanks to Ed Carley for the photos.  Rumors of another ski movie premiere in early December at Western are circulating. Stay tuned here at the West Elk Project for updates.
