The 2013 Crested Butte Ski Mountaineering Race sanctioned by the United States Ski Mountaineering Association will be held at Crested Butte Mountain Resort on this Saturday January 26 2013. This ski mountaineering competition will require competitors to ski their way up, down, and across Crested Butte’s legendary Extreme Limits terrain. Rally begins promptly at 8:00am in the CBMR base area, where the competitors will run to clip into their gear and begin skinning up the mountain.
Unfortunately a lack of recent snow has forced the change of the course (note that the Guide Ridge will not be included, so NO TECHNICAL ROPE GEAR). Below are some Google Earth photos of the Race Division course.
Team Crested Butte will be hosting the event. Local National Ski Mountaineer Team Members Marshall Thomson, Bryan Wichenhauser, Jari Kirkland, will be racing with Stevie Kremer cheering from Europe.
ATHLETES NEED TO BE HERE FRIDAY NIGHT TO PASS A SKILLS CHECK IF THEY PLAN ON RACING THE GUIDE RIDGE. SKILLS CHECK WILL BE FROM 7:30-8:30PM 1/25/13 IN THE ELEVATION HOTEL AT THE BASE OF CBMR (SAME LOCATION AS LAST YEAR).
