Preliminary reports are not good regarding an avalanche that took place around 2:00 PM today, January 21st, 2016. A snowmobiler was caught in a large slide in the Lake Irwin area under Mt. Ruby. A local man, known as B-Rad, real name Daniel Sethness, was caught in the slide while snowmobiling under the slope. A response was initiated by Irwin Guides as the avalanche was witnessed from their operation. The victim required resuscitation and was evacuated to the Kebler trailhead and transported to Gunnison Valley Hospital. Our thoughts our with the victim, family, friends, and the professional response from all involved.
