The Crested Butte Extreme’s, known by many names over the years, is the granddaddy of all freeskiing competitions. You hear a lot of whining about how we have too many trees and rocks. But if you can ski Crested Butte, you can ski anywhere. My favorite competitors over recent years have been the Chickering-Ayers boys and Griffin Post, a few of the only skiers who can slay the rest of the tour and crush at Crested Butte.
This competition has a lot of history. It’s been over 20 years since this competition began. Here’s to 20 more. Check out this hilarious video from the 1994 extremes filmed by John Sandy Productions. How things change.
