Blunck Starts North Face Park and Pipe Open Series

Aaron Tramp

Crested Butte Olympic hopeful Aaron Blunck is set to begin his 2013 competition season this weekend at the North Face Park and Pipe Open Series at Copper Mountain, CO.  The sixteen year old CB local will be up against sixty-four of the biggest names in pipe, including Tanner Hall, Justin Dorey, and the Wells brothers.  Aaron has been training at the Vail Ski and Snowboard Academy, where he follows a regimen prescribed by the USSA Development Team while attending school.

Tomorrow’s event at Copper Mountain is the first of three events for Aaron in the North Face Park and Pipe Open Series.  After Copper, the tour heads to Whistler BC (Jan.14-17), and Waterville Valley NH (Aaron is skipping this one) before wrapping up at Northstar CA (Mar. 8-10).  In addition Aaron will be competing at the Grand Prix at Park City (Dec. 19-22) and at Copper (Jan. 9-12).  Aaron also hopes to compete at World Cup events in Russia and France as well.

Though it is Aaron’s first event this winter, he is coming off a strong showing this summer where he took 3rd in qualifying at the New Zealand Open, in addition to stomping his first double cork 1260 in the pipe (check footage here).  We wish Aaron the best of luck for tomorrow as well as the season ahead.
