Blunck Begins the Road to Sochi

Aaron Blunck at Innsbruck

Leaves for New Zealand tomorrow

In just one week, Aaron Blunck begins his journey to the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.  The Crested Butte community did an excellent job in supporting Emma Coburn’s London success.  It’s time to do it again.  Aaron is kicking off his Olympic qualifying effort at Cardrona Alpine Resort on New Zealand’s south island.  The 16 year old leaves tomorrow for almost three weeks of winter where he will compete at the Freeski World Cup Wednesday, August 22nd and then again at the New Zealand Freeski Open from the August 28th to the 1stat Snowpark outside Wanaka, NZ.  Hopefully he gets some pow days too.

To get ready for his journey, Aaron has spent his summer at the gym, following his USSA Development Team workout.  Aaron was added to the team this past May, where he trains with stars Torin Yater-Wallace, David Wise, and Tucker Perkins.  He skied with his Vail team at Mt. Bachelor in June and with the U.S. team at Mt. Hood in July.  Blunck notes, “To get to travel the world and compete at the sport I love is a dream that couldn’t have happened with out tremendous support from my family and sponsors.”
